Blue Suede

Yikes! So sorry I haven’t checked in here for a while. I have still been busy creating but haven’t found the time to post here. I have been fairly active on my Instagram and Facebook pages and you can pop over there and see what I have been up to.

This cake was a great opportunity to try a new technique, faux suede. The suede look on the front panel of the cake was created using wafer paper.

I coloured the wafer paper by airbrushing blue and then cut up and popped into a small coffee/spice grinder. After blitzing to my preferred size, I added a touch of darker blue petal dust to deepen the colour.

Blitzing the wafer paper!

I was a little nervous to put the wafer paper directly onto the buttercream so I attached it to a panel of fondant before popping on the cake. I will try with just buttercream as soon as I get a chance, I was just worried about soggy wafer paper! I’d love to hear if any of you have had success with this technique.
