Rose Cake

I recently purchased my first airbrush and compressor, a piece of equipment that I have been wanting for a few years now.  I have been practicing and getting to know the ins and outs of this fabulous tool on paper; this rose cake is my first attempt using it on a cake.

I made the cake for my Mum, knowing that if it wasn’t perfect she wouldn’t mind!  The cake itself is a lemon layer cake.  Lovely layers of lemon cake sandwiched together with lemon curd and cream cheese frosting.  The roses were piped on with the same cream cheese frosting using a 1M tip.

Then came the fun! I airbrushed the cake all over with a light coat of red, then added more layers of colour.  Initially I was going for a ombre effect but I got a bit carried away and it ended up being the same shade all over.  I used Americolor Red Sheen.
